Cork City Libraries Online gives you an overview of the services we offer, and enables you to carry out transactions online, including renewing or requesting items.

Cork City Libraries — a service of Cork City Council

Cork City Libraries provide a range of library and information services to the people of Cork, and through this website to anyone interested in Cork. We provide books, CDs, DVDs, videos, and audio books, for use within the library or for home use. We also provide computers with fast Internet access throughout our network of branches and in our Central Library.

Visitors are welcome to use our facilities free of charge for on-site reading/enquiries. Registered membership entitles members to borrow items (books, CDs, DVDs, etc.) for home use. Internet access is available to members and non-members, at €1 per half-hour session. Enquiries can be in person, by telephone, letter, or e-mail and are welcome from everybody; whether members or not.

Registered membership is free in many cases. See the Get a Library Card page for conditions of library membership and information on charges.

The Central and Bishopstown libraries are open six days per week, Monday to Saturday, and our other local libraries are open Tuesday to Saturday. Opening times of all libraries are shown on the relevant library page. On Saturdays & Mondays of bank-holiday weekends, all our libraries are closed.

We provide online access to our catalogue on this website. Of course, non-members too can browse our catalogue, which includes an in-house index of articles from newspapers and periodicals since the mid-1990s. Library members with PIN numbers can renew items by accessing the online catalogue, and can also place requests for items from the catalogue.

Senior Management

Liam Ronayne is Cork City Librarian

John Mullins is Senior Executive Librarian with responsibilities for e-Library Services, including Website development, Digitization, Internet access, library management system, and bibliographical services.

Eamonn Kirwan is Senior Executive Librarian with responsibilities for co-ordinating Central Library & local library services, as well as promotion & special activities.

Tina Healy is Executive Librarian in charge of Finance & Administration.

The following Executive Librarians are in charge of local libraries: Ann Riordan in Hollyhill; Mary FitzGerald in Tory Top; David O'Brien in Douglas; Mary Corcoran in Blackpool; Breda Hassett in Bishopstown and Rose Smyth in Mayfield.

The following Executive Librarians are in charge of departments/services in the Central Library: Peggy Barrett in Reference; Kieran Burke in Local Studies; Kitty Buckley in Music; Sinéad Feely in Bibliographic Services; Eibhlin Cassidy in Child and Young People library services, and Patricia Looney in Lending.
