Library catalogue
Twenty-four-hour access to our Library Catalogue is the busiest of our online services. You do not need to be a registered library member to search our catalogue. If you wish to search for details of a newspaper or journal article from our holdings of periodicals, select the ‘newspaper/magazine’ tab on the catalogue page. This provides details from our unique index of selected articles from newspapers/journals/magazines and from some books in the stock of Cork City Libraries. We also provide a new and growing online facility for those interested in information about Cork , in our Cork Past and Present web pages. For these and other online facilities, select options on menu at left of screen. Members of Cork City Libraries have other online privileges, outlined below.
Facilities for library members
To check what items you have borrowed, to renew those items, or to request that a title be held for you, you select the Library Catalogue at top of this page. To complete any of the following, you will be asked to enter (i) your 14-digit membership barcode, and (ii) your four-digit personal identification no. (PIN), obtainable with proof of identity at any of our circulation desks.
- Online book requests : After searching the ‘Books/CDs’ catalogue tab, library members can request (or place a ‘hold’ on) books or other items of stock by clicking the ‘Request copy’ button at right of selected title. You then enter your barcode & PIN, before clicking on the final ‘Request’ button. (You also have the option to add a comment, e.g., “Cancel request if after [date]”). Some items may not be requested for loan, e.g., Reference items.
- Check your account : To check what items you have borrowed, first select the ‘Borrower Details’ tab and then select the ‘Items Out’ option on the red bar. After entering your personal nos., tick titles to be renewed and click on the ‘Renew’ button.
- Online renewals : On the same ‘Items Out’ window, tick box at left on Title bar before clicking the grey ‘Renew’ button to renew the loan or extend the loan time. An item can be renewed provided (i) the item is not already requested by another library user, (ii) your membership is still valid, (iii) you have not reached the maximum no. of renewals for the item on loan — an item can be renewed up to five times, and (iv) you do not have a "lost" item, which has not been paid for, on your membership record. If you have difficulty, contact your local library.
