In 2009 we hope to restore ourselves to knowledge, to books, to the quest of wide reading. We will celebrate reading with our series of author events, talks, lectures, discussions and other public events.

| February | Month of a Thousand Lattes |
| The Year of the Constant Reader will begin in style, with our recommended reads to get you out of any post-Christmas blues, boosted by Vouchers for coffee awarded to 1,000 constant readers. Get your loyalty cards (in the form of bookmarks) stamped to take part. Special guests this month include David Norris who will partake in a Joyce Readathon | |
| March | Reading the Diaspora |
| In March, the month of St Patrick when our thoughts turn to the Irish abroad, we will feature books about/by the Irish abroad. Watch this site for news on visiting authors | |
| April | Month of a Thousand Roses |
| Our promotion in April will be the literature of love & romance. Inspired by the Catalan tradition of the book and the rose, we will give a rose to 1,000 constant readers [details announced nearer the date] April will also have World Book Fest with the full line-up for 2009 to be confirmed early in the year | |
| May | A Month of Journeys |
| Our focus in May will be on travel books; one of the world’s leading travel writers, Jan Morris, will be our guest. Watch this space for details | |
| June | Mí an Mheithimhh - Mí na Ghaoluinne |
| Leabhair Gaelaigh do pháistí agus daoine fásta In June the emphasis will be on the wealth of Irish language literature, not only our unique literary heritage but the new writers in the language | |
| July / August | Book Attack! / A Sporting Read |
| We will have two streams over the summer period, for children and adults: 1. Book Attack: an entire two months devoted to children’s reading during the summer holidays. Every year we have a children’s summer programme; in 2009 we will have a stronger emphasis on the pleasures of reading, and on reading skills 2. A Sporting Read: these months will also feature the best of sports-writing, just when the GAA season is hotting up | |
| September | A Month of Stories |
| Cork is renowned around the world as the short story city, thanks to Corkery, O’Connor and Ó’Faoláin, and more recently the Frank O’Connor Short Story Festival and the lucrative Short Story Award. We will feature not only the best of Irish short story writers but also focus on the originals, e.g. Chekov and Turgenev | |
| October | Words are the Business |
| In these traumatic economic times we will offer the best of the season’s business books, in recognition and celebration of business people who read. We also plan to bring a keynote speaker to Cork | |
| November | Remember the Read |
| The month of November will be devoted to the craft of biography & autobiography, perennial favourites in libraries. Look forward to the classics of the genre plus the best of 2009 | |
