Housebound Service Books, audio books on CD and tape, videos & DVDs are delivered to those who, because of mobility problems or poor health, find it difficult to visit the library.  Visits are done on a regular basis by a member of staff.  There is no charge for this service.  If you wish to avail of this service, please contact Deirbhile Dennehy, 4924932.

Aids for the mobility impaired

If you have difficulty getting around the library, we invite you, with the aid of a companion, to use the transit wheelchair provided. In doing so the user is deemed responsible for its proper usage. Please contact a member of staff for access.

In addition to our comprehensive book stock for adults and children, we stock non-book material.

Sound cassettes are available to borrow for adults and children. Many of the well known fiction authors are available on cassette and CD.  We also stock a range of language-learning tapes and CDs, which are always in popular demand.  Our collection of DVDs for adults is steadily growing.  We hold a wide range of subject areas in our video collection for adults.  The ?Famous Authors? and ?Famous Composers? series has proved very popular.

Adults may borrow up to 6 items as members of the library.
A child member may borrow 4 items. 
An item can be a book, a sound cassette, CD, video, or DVD.

Large-Print Books

Large-print books, both fiction and non fiction, are stocked in Douglas Library. These are very popular and are very useful for readers with a visual impairment.

Children can also enjoy a selection of jigsaws and games, including a dolls house, to play within the library.

Other services include: 4 daily newspapers, some weekly papers, a selection of magazines, including Which?? as well as French and German periodicals. We also host a book swap bin, and a Photocopier for black and white and colour prints. An A4 flatbed scanner is linked to one of the public PCs.

Application forms for driving licenses are also available.
