 Cork City Libraries joined the LIBRARIES IRELAND national public library system on 15 February 2017. 

Libraries Ireland is a government-sponsored initiative providing ready access to the library stock of all public libraries in Ireland — when all systems have been successfully changed over in late March or April 2017. 

Please bear with us while staff and yourselves adjust to availing of the expanding resources from the Libraries Ireland service.  

When systems have been fully set up, we hope you enjoy full access to the nationwide collection of items from Libraries Ireland.

Note:  Your Cork City library card can also be used in other Irish public libraries when all have joined Libraries Ireland by the end of March 2017.  More news of this to follow soon!

We encourage you to visit the new catalogue to familiarise yourself with how it works.  Just click on the image at the top of the page.  It might be a good idea to bookmark the site for future reference.

So, what's different?

• Searching: When you search for an item on the Libraries Ireland catalogue, you are searching the stock of Irish public libraries. After you enter your search words you can filter the results to show only items in Cork City Libraries by choosing from the menu on the left. See screenshot below. 

• PIN: You can now add/change your own PIN. If you have a current, active membership, but forgotten your PIN (essential for online services including accessing eBooks), you can reset the PIN by clicking on My Account or Login on the catalogue homepage and then choosing Forget Your PIN? Follow the prompts and you will receive an email containing a link to where you can set up a new PIN. If you already know your PIN and would like to change it, you can login as normal and choose Edit PIN adjacent to your name.

• SMS Notifications: Under the new system, if you would like to be notified by SMS text message on your mobile phone for requests/overdues etc., then you need to opt-in for this service. If you would like to know how to opt-in for SMS click here to open the Libraries Ireland page in a new window, then login with your barcode and PIN and follow the instructions below.

When you have successfully logged in, click on Edit Account.

A pop-up window will appear where you can tick the box to opt-in for SMS and email. Click on submit.

Soon afterwards you will receive a confirmation text to let you know that you have agreed to receive SMS messages from the library.  You can opt-out or change your mobile number at any time by editing your account.

• Join Online: You now have the option of joining the library online. Click here and fill in the registration form.

Your membership will be activated immediately but you will have to go to your local library to verify your account and pick up a membership card. You will need to bring proof of your address with you.
