Athenry : An Odyssey of Sacrifice, Survival and Love
Cathal Dunne achieved his dream in 1979 when his song “Happy Man” represented Ireland at the Eurovision. He subsequently pursued a musical career in America, settling in Pittsburgh with wife Kathleen and family, but has never neglected his roots. Cathal has now extended his creative horizons by writing ‘Athenry’, a novel inspired by the much-loved Pete St. John song. A story of love and heartbreak set during the Great Famine, it will be launched at Cork City Libraries on Saturday, August 23rd. You are welcome to meet Cathal at Mayfield Library at 11 am that morning for book discussion, Q & A and music. #HeritageWeek
